In 2006 Chief Jose Pequeno of the Sugar Hill Police Department was activated with his NH National Guard Unit for deployment to Afghanistan.  While on assignment his HUMVEE was hit by an IED.  One member of his squad was killed and Chief Pequeno suffered a very traumatic brain injury.  After many surgeries and extensive therapy, along constant care from his mother and sister he is able to breathe on his own and travel.  In December, 2012 he travelled back to NH for a reception in Sugar Hill.

On the left several member s of NH law enforcement join with his family in welcoming him home.  Among the Chiefs in the picture are Chief David Wentworth of the Sugar Hill Police, Chief Doug Morehead of the Woodstock Police, Chief Joe Tavernier of the Lisbon Police, Chief Stephen Savage of the Plaistow Police, Chief Ed Garone of the Derry Police,. Chief Gary Young (Ret) of the Sugar Hill Police. Chief Steven Marshall of the Washington Police and NHACoP Executive Director Anne Dalton.  On the right Chief Garone presents Jose with his Life Membership credentials to the NHACoP, with Jose's mother, sister and children watching.
